Language in Aruba
The official languages are Dutch and Papiamento (a Creole language that is based on the Portuguese language with strong influences of Spanish, English, Dutch and African languages).
The oldest Aruban official document written in Papiamento dates from 1803. All Aruban newspapers, except the Amigoe are written in the Papiamento language and all meetings of the Parliament of Aruba are held in Papiamento. To really understand the politics, you should understand Papiamento properly.
In the census of 2000, the most spoken home language among the population for 69.4% is Papiamento, Spanish for 13.2%, 8.1% to 6.1% for English and Dutch.
Climate in Aruba
Aruba has a tropical climate with afternoon temperatures averaging from 29 degrees in December to 32 degrees in July and August. The average annual rainfall is around 600 mm, but large deviations of this quantity are possible. Some years counts more than 1000 mm, while in other years hardly a drop of rain falls. The rainy season is October, November and December. During this season the rain falls mostly at night and in the morning, afternoon and evening are usually sunny and dry. Most of the times Aruba is spared getting hit by a hurricane. This because Aruba is on the edge of the hurricane belt.
