Early History of Aruba in Brief
The history of Aruba is almost 2000 years old and dates back to the time when the Coquetios Indians of the Arawak tribe were forced to flee the Venezuelan forests unable to bear the onslaught of the Carib Indians. While many Coquetios made Aruba their home, there were others who moved to other parts of South America. Not many could venture out to the other nearby Caribbean islands as it was mighty difficult to break through the strong currents in canoes. However, it was only after Alonso De Ojeda, a Spanish explorer founded a colony in 1499, did Aruba become a well known island on the Caribbean Sea.
