The currency of Aruba is called the Aruban guilder/florin. I'm not quite sure why it has two names, though. Even though the dollar is accepted there, what exactly is the exchange rate, or are they equal?

One dollar is approximately 1.75 florin. The rate of the florin is pegged to the dollar. so this is always the same.
The two names, Florin is the Currency, Guilder is the coin.

1 us dollar= 1.8000 Aruban Florin, or 1 Aruban Florin(AWG)=0.55556 US Dollar (USD). This is based of today's value, aug. 4,09. Do you think this just a small rate?

What do the businesses there prefer? Has anyone had any problems with say hole in the wall places taking the US Dollar? I was planning on exchanging to their currency before I leave but if the exchange rate is pretty much fixed maybe I won't.
