Depending on where you are on Aruba, on a clear day you can actually see the coast of Venezuela. Venezuela is a short 17 mile boat trip from Aruba and they have day cruises to the South American country that I highly recommend. As with any foreign country, stay in the crowded, tourist areas and you will be fine. The shopping there is fantastic and, for me, I was happy to go because I knew it was probably the only time I would get to go to South America.
