The reason for this fee is because of the increase of the price of fuel. I learned that the heavier a plane, the more fuel it will consume. This is why many airlines are putting fees on checked-in luggage.

I am not sure what airline it was (Southwest maybe) is no longer going to charge for luggage. It was a news story I heard one day last week.

I think it is absolutely crazy how much these airlines are charging for luggage. I think I read that one airline was charging $45 per bag! If that is the case then it's going to cost more to fly then to stay in Aruba.

Charging for luggage is the least of what they are starting to charge for. I read an article in Time magazine at the doctor's office that said they were all going to start charging for in flight meals and snacks as well.
