What is Dera Gai? I know that it has something to do with Roosters and folklore of some kind but I have never quite understood what it was or where it came from.
Dera Gai means Bury Rooster. It used to be a missionary tradition to remember roasted apostles in San Juan. They would bury a living rooster. Its gone down the coast and now its a raucous festival.
Ha ha! You left out the part where they DON'T bury a live rooster now. Its quite a lively festival though, and the fire department has to put out some mini fires that get set as part of tradition.
