A Yearly Windsurfing Event That You Can Look Forward To

Aruba is definitely a place that can be best described as a tropical get-away. Other than its incredible hotel accommodations, tasty restaurant food menus, countless activities can also be enjoyed by its visitors. The island's ideal wind and water conditions, not to mention its crystal clear green waters, have even attracted so many foreigners to keep on visiting the place each and every year. Aside from Aruba's picturesque beaches, its yearly events have also made people come back to the place over and over again. One of the annual events that have become very appealing to the tastes of its visitors is the Aruba High Winds.

This yearly event started in the month of June, year 1987. Two local entrepreneurs named Antony Blok and Ruben Croes suggested a sailing event in Eagle Beach during those days. When the PBA or Professional Boardsailing Association learned that the event went very well, they decided to make it a part of the World Tour in the year 1988. Since then, the event has become one of the best windsurfing events in the world. Even the former windsurfing world experts and champions like Robby Naish, Bjorn Dunckerbeck and Anders Bringdal join the yearly event in Aruba.

Through those years, the event gained the support of the ATA or Aruba Tourism Authority. During its first 10 years, the event was funded by the government of Aruba. They even intended to sustain the event financially to attract professional windsurfers from all over the world just to come to the island.

In 1997, the Aruban government was obliged to limit their support to the yearly event. After that, the organizing committee of Aruba High Winds unlocked its doors to interested novices to join for support. Other than that, they also aimed to make Aruba's sportive image to be well known and improved. This has led to changing Aruba Hi-Winds from a purely professional windsurfing event into a fun and exciting racing event every year. Freestyle windsurfing and even kite boarding were also added to the event.

This event has been very popular for being one of the biggest windsurfing events in the Caribbean. Experienced and novice windsurfers flock to Aruba every year to improve their slalom racing, kite boarding and free styling skills. They also visit the island to enjoy the other highlights of the event.

From the 30th of June until the 5th of July of 2010, the 23rd Aruba Hi-Winds has gathered a lot of individuals who were looking forward to the event. The Slalom, freestyle and kite boarding races were indeed very successful. The professional kite surfer Jalou Langeree was even at the event to demonstrate and inspire other people to boost their abilities in kite surfing.

Other than those racing events, the place were also filled with music because of the presence of several live bands and DJs. Famous restaurants, drink stand and other food items were also highly available within the area. A Bula fashion show, Capoeira Workshop, Jerk and Body painting contests were also held. These have definitely made the event more successful and convenient.

Just like before, the Aruba High Winds event this year has absolutely become a success. The typical slalom racers, freestylers and other windsurfers still enjoyed the event that they have been waiting for. Yet, another year has to come and this major Caribbean yearly event will surely become another fun and successful occasion that you can look forward to.
