I think it's a good idea to bring your own first aid kit (if possible) and to always wear comfortable shoes in case you have to run because of an emergency. It's a good idea to wear a money belt, too.

I think that would be fine. What are the "self defense materials" that you have in mind? You may use an umbrella or even the pen as a thing for self defense. Another one, don't go to less crowded places. Just make sure that you are with a group when you roam around the area.

Self-defense things are a very good idea, but you have to get creative since you can't take things considered to be weapons on the plane with you. Crowded places can be just as dangerous. I'd advise anyone to just be aware of their surroundings.

Do not put your money in one place. You should have a "Body Bag" where you can put all the important papers like passports, tickets and money. Also you must have a travelers guide of the place you want to visit.

What exactly is a "body bag"? Is it safe to scatter all of your belongings in a body bag? Wouldn't that make it easy to lose? Also, I thought it would be harder for someone to snatch a money belt off you since it's tucked into your pants.
